It has been an honor to speak at the European Steel Scrap and Circular Economy Forum earlier this, where I delivered a presentation on the European Scrap Dynamics, the need to upgrade obsolete scrap to be able to use this for high quality form able steel and how industry could / should work together for re-thinking the circularity of steel. The conference has also brought me new insights on what other players are doing. Returning home, full of inspiration!

Insightful conference last week at the European Steel Scrap and Circular Economy Forum in Düsseldorf. A lot to discuss and learn on key trends and drivers in the steel industry and in low carbon steelmaking - from feedstock supply to digitalised process efficiency and EAF production volumes. Thanks GREEN STEEL HUB for having me and the super organisation!
Summit Background
As the global drive toward carbon neutrality and a circular economy continues to gain momentum, the steel industry - an essential pillar of the manufacturing sector - confronts unprecedented pressure to mitigate its environmental impact while upholding industrial competitiveness. Because of the high recyclability, scrap steel production has established itself as a foundational solution, facilitating substantial reductions in carbon emissions relative to primary steelmaking and playing an integral role in fostering material recycling and reuse across key industries. The upcoming forum is organized to assemble key industry stakeholders, including scrap processors, steel manufacturers, end-user sectors, technology researchers and developers, and policymakers. This two-day forum is to facilitate in-depth deliberations on the opportunities and challenges associated with advancing circularity within the steel industry, while providing a collaborative platform for the exchange of cutting-edge insights, alignment of strategic objectives, and identification of actionable pathways to accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable, low-carbon, and circular steel ecosystem.
